Carli Wheatley was once an instructor for us at Gymbox. Now she has set up her own nutrition kitchen Protein Haus in Canary Wharf, which boasts mouth-watering dishes, cookies, juices and snacks, for you to eat in-store or take away. They also provide juice and meal plans devised on just for your specific needs. All Gymbox members can grab a snack, meal and a drink for £10. Just show your membership card.

Hi Carli, tell us about Protein Haus

I was frustrated that I couldn't eat what I wanted, unless I made it myself, so that's what gave me the idea to start my own business. I haven't looked back since!

You used to be a boxing trainer at Gymbox, tell us about your most memorable moments.

The whole experience was really inspiring. Not just the boxing itself, but being part of the human weights campaign where we used little people as weights. Working for Gymbox was never boring!

What’s the brand’s USP?

No one is doing what I'm doing. There are fitness food delivery companies, but no actual stand alone stores selling food to cater to all diets. So this is where I fill in the gap in the market.

Do you deliver, or is it pick up only from the store?

We are linked with Deliveroo, plus we are looking to do an online delivery juice detox plan very soon, so watch this space or get in touch with us direct.

Do you advise people personally on what plans/meals to order?

Yes, this is really important to us. I'm at my store all the time so am there to discuss plans in detail with clients, or people can contact me via email if they have any questions and advice re which plans to go for.

What are your own personal favourite dishes that are available?

My new meal eggs 2 ways plus corn. Egg whites / whole eggs, corn, peppers, spinach 'dope combo' – plus we just started selling rainbow bagels. One of these with almond butter post workout hits the spot!

As you’ve been a trainer for over 15 years, what have you learnt most about nutrition?

You need your nutrition on point if you want to make changes to health or waistline. You can't out-train a bad diet...

You must have a guilty pleasure, please tell us.

Starbucks Frappuccino. Hell to the yes! Bad boy syrups, but they make me smile. You won't tell anyone right?

What are the common mistakes people who train a lot make?

Anyone who lives in London, let alone trains hard, probably doesn't get enough rest. The key is to get in some extra greens, good sources of protein, and make sure you laugh and smile at every opportunity.

Who is your target customer?

We cater for all diets, all people. We don't push any type of lifestyle on you. We want you to be able to find what you need from us. Low carb, paleo, balanced, juice, meal deals, smoothies, protein shakes, healthy cake, cookies, protein bars, healthy crisps – fun Items I want people to eat and enjoy without the guilt.

Who creates all the dishes?

Me and my fabulous team! We have two kitchens in Canary Wharf and will always have on-site kitchens so we can keep it real!

You also provide juice fasts, do these actually work?

Juice fasting by Protein Haus to me are for starting over like a Monday morning after a crazy weekend. If you have over done it and feel a little bit lost or down, you get feelings of guilt after a big blow out, if you want to re-invent yourself or start a new plan, it's a chance to begin again. It's a mental and physical renewal! After a one day juice fast if you can go that one day, you instantly feel a sense of accomplishment, that you are the king of the world. You are back in the driver's seat of your life, you can again start eating better with confidence you will succeed of a healthier path. Sometimes you should just give your body a rest from chowing down food all the time. And 1-3 days off is a mini-rest for your body. It's sounds dramatic, but it's empowering.

Are people able to train when doing a juice fast?

Yes. But we are all adults and individuals. You do one day see how you feel and go from there. You know how you feel and what you can do more that anyone else. So listen to your body.

Can you recommend a juice for our Gymbox members?

Yes, the Green Shake. 250ml water, add handful of all ingredients + scoop of protein powder and blend! Pow!
