Meet Hayley Richards, Group Admin Manager and Pound instructor!

Hayley Richards is Group Admin Manager by day, Pound instructor by night! "I love Gymbox! There aren't many offices where I could spend Monday to Friday dancing around in my gym clothes, not caring what anyone thinks!"

Hi Hayley! What on earth are you doing in the photos? We thought you worked in head office?

It's a class we offer at Gymbox called POUND, created by a female drummer in the USA, that I have recently qualified in. POUND is a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics and isometric poses into a 45-minute series. Burn between 400 and 900+ calories per hour, strengthen and sculpt infrequently used muscles, and drum your way to a leaner, slimmer physique – all while rocking out to your favorite music! Through continual upper body motion using our lightly weighted drumsticks, called Ripstix®, you'll turn into a calorie-torching drummer, POUNDing off pounds as each song flies by. Rock, rap, dubstep, pop and old school music fuse to create the POUNDtrack series, which is hand-selected by music enthusiasts, drummers and POUND founders Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Peerenboom.

We're sold! What is involved in your current position of Group Administration Manager?

It involves a bit of everything, looking after most of the admin for membership, reception, sales and studio!

How has becoming an instructor fit in with your 9-5 role?

It fits well! Most of our classes fall out of standard work hours, so I can teach before work, or run off quickly in the evening for classes. It also adds variety to my work, which is great.

Was it easy to transition into?

Yes! I danced a lot when I was younger, so any classes that are choreography based suit me. If I'm not teaching, I'm usually training at those times anyway!

Tell us about your Gymbox journey so far

I started on reception at Covent Garden straight after college in 2009, and I've been here since! I have done quite a few different roles. Reception, reception manager, studio and reception manager, membership assistant, studio and VPT administrator, and now group admin manager (while training up to teach as many classes as I can).

Impressive! What has been your highlights of working at Gymbox so far?

I love seeing the new clubs open! When I started there was only three clubs, so it's great to see it growing and gradually taking over London!

Any funny stories to share about working at head office?

Yes, loads. But I might get told off if I share them here... find me at the next Gymbox party and I might tell you.

Shame! Do you work out in the clubs a lot, and if so, what is your fitness regime?

I love the gyms (especially Holborn). I lost a lot of weight when I first started at Gymbox training with a VPT and I've been addicted ever since. I usually do a strength/weights session in the morning, and then sprints/circuit/class on my lunch break! More exercise = more food!

In what ways do you think you reflect the Gymbox member?

Our members love a challenge, but still want training to be fun – Gymbox has got the perfect balance!

And what is it about Gymbox that makes you happy?

It lets me be me! There aren't many offices where I could spend Monday to Friday dancing around in my gym clothes, not caring what anyone thinks!
