Gymbox have teamed up with Chamonix Hard Cross to offer a luxury summer mountain camp of 7 nights combining fitness, health and personal challenge on the iconic mountain trails of the Mont Blanc massif and in the beautiful town of Chamonix. Delivered by world-leading guides and fitness experts the week brings the absolute best in fitness coaching to the Gymbox members, set in luxury chalet accommodation in extraordinary surroundings.
The week combines cardio work on mountain trails with core and conditioning sessions in the valley. The best alpine guides, the right balance of fitness work and the best nutrition are paramount in enjoying the week and learning more about yourself and your body. The trip will likely build to one big trail day to take in the highlights of what is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and is focused heavily on cardiovascular and core fitness as well as celebrating healthy and tasty food! The week will include plenty of time to relax and enjoy the chalet, as well as the incredibly sociable town itself. This is after all a holiday!
The Fitness Challenge
The fitness element of the week will provide a combination of time on the trails (hiking and speed hiking) and bootcamp style strength, core and stretch sessions. These will be designed to challenge your expectation of yourself, improve your level of fitness and learn what works best for you. Each day will be tailored to the group to provide between 3 and 7 hours activity, varying and building towards a final challenge. We will let you know how to prepare for the week in order to gain maximum benefit and enjoyment. At the end of each day we will have at least one conditioning and stretch session taken by one of the CHX resident trainers, all in the warmth of the valley and the comfort of the chalet. Sports massage is also available in the chalet each day for an hour before dinner.
What You Will Achieve
The camp is designed to provide a complete escape from UK life, whilst really developing your mental and physical wellbeing. The trail programme and nutrition are designed to boost your metabolism like never before, and whilst doing so will unquestionably result in weight loss, which can be quite dramatic in many cases.
From a fitness perspective the week would serve as a great training camp for an endurance event, from beginner to elite. It takes you away from the usual routine and challenges the body and mind in different ways. For many CHX clients it is a great way to get a bit fitter, seriously tone, and learn exactly what you need to do to maintain it. For others it is a work hard, play hard dream!
The CHX Team
The Chamonix Hard Cross team is unique for a number of reasons. Immersed in sports conditioning and nutrition, all have competed in various sports, with and against each other, have worked together for years, and know exactly what it takes to push personal barriers especially in the high mountains.
The programmes are devised by a team which comprises the leading sports nutritionist in the UK, a World record holding trail runner, one of the leading strength conditioning coaches in junior elite sport (as well as senior), one of the most published sports psychologists (and conditioning coaches), in the UK, all of whom have competed at an international or professional sports level. Nutrition is a huge part of the week and CHX has an exceptional team assembled recognizing that food is the common ingredient that all of our clients will want advice on, as well it being the most enjoyable part of exercise! Three meals per day are prepared fresh for you by our chef with breakfast and dinner in the chalet and lunch on the mountain trail. Bring your preferred energy snacks or we will advise and you can buy locally.
The week's menu is designed by leading Sports Nutritionist, Matt Lovell to give perfect balance for the physical challenge – it is not about taking anything out, rather adding everything you will need. Matt is sports nutritionist to the senior England Rugby team, as well as Manchester City FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC.
Our resident nutritionist, Alison Stork – Nuffield Health – will be delivering 1-2-1 consultations at the beginning of the week and then on hand every day and evening to answer all your questions throughout the week. She works hand in hand with the chef to make sure everything is tasty and healthy in equal measure, as well as plentiful! The camp is designed for everyone to learn more about themselves and how food can work for them, whether training for a specific goal, or simply getting more from food in balancing a hectic life. CHX provide wine with the evening meal, and our supplier will be happy to sell you more at vineyard prices if you plan to stay in the chalet rather than head to town.
From the UK, travel to Chamonix is incredibly easy. Flights are cheap and frequent from London to Geneva and we have preferred rates for the 60 minute shuttle from Geneva to Chamonix. Allow about £150 for return including transfer. Less if booking early.
