Philip Tieu of Gymbox's very own Team Tieu takes the very best of Muay Thai to the famous Indigo at the O2 on June 20th. Expect a magical night of the highest quality fights the fans want to see. Philip gives us the insight of what to expect on the night.
Hi Phil, tell us about this event coming up on June 20th?
It's always been my dream to promote somewhere big like the O2. Five years ago I started at the Ministry of Sound. Then I moved to the Scala and Koko in Camden. I'm now stepping up to the O2 where it holds more than 2500 people. With this event we have all the best UK fighters fighting domestically and internationally. We also have a four man tournament where the winner takes the £2000 cash prize.
This is going to be your biggest show to date, are you nervous?
Not nervous yet! It hasn't really kicked in yet. I think nerves will happen on the day...
How is it different from other events you've been part of?
Mainly the size of the show which has doubled in capacity, and the quality of fights. The production will be much slicker and more professional. London hasn't had a big Muay Thai show like this for a long time, so it feels like now is the time to make that happen.
Is this more of a show than a competition?
Both. Fighters will be competing with each other, but I always tell my fighters to put on a show as people pay money to come and watch them. They should entertain the crowd and show their skills off.
What can people expect to see on the night?
Expect fire works, action, drama blood and tears – expect to see our biggest show yet! Some of the best fighters in Europe will be fighting for championship belts, and our first four man tournament will be launched. Most of the fights are repeat and revenge matches that the fans have asked for.
